Complete can describe the collection without settling the edition
Fully Compiled, ISBN 9781646516315, brings The Ghost in the Shell 1, 1.5 and 2 into one 832-page hardcover. The distributor lists the original colour pages, translation and notes. It is an understandable choice for a reader who wants those works gathered in a single reading object rather than a group of separately handled books.
The 2026 Legacy box, ISBN 9798888776711, also gathers the three works, this time as three hardcovers. Buying it does not add a newly numbered story after 2. For someone who already owns Fully Compiled, the reason to consider another collection must therefore be more specific than discovering that three titles fit inside its box.
Legacy’s restoration claim changes the comparison
Kodansha expressly says Legacy restores pages that had been edited in the original Ghost in the Shell manga and matches the latest Japanese version it describes. It separately identifies the Deluxe Edition localisations of 1.5 and 2. That is a real edition distinction for a reader who cares about the original manga’s page content, rather than simply preferring a different cover.
Keep that statement attached to its scope. The two product descriptions do not supply a scene-by-scene account of every difference between these particular copies. Someone buying solely for a certain passage should ask about that exact passage, rather than assume a complete label or a restoration label answers every textual question. For a new reader, the documented restoration can be a positive reason to favour Legacy without turning another owner’s existing book into a mistake.
Would the objects beyond the manga leave the box?
Legacy also describes a slipcase with two new Shirow illustrations, eleven posters and multicoloured Fuchikoma stickers. Its ten-inch posters arrive rolled in a rigid inner box. That is a meaningful attraction for someone who wants to look through or display those paper objects. For a person seeking only the collected manga, the extras are a separate activity to want, not another chapter to read.
Choose Fully Compiled when the single-volume collection is the desired form and its documented contents answer the reading plan. Give Legacy the stronger consideration when the restoration or its particular paper collection matters. The useful difference is what you want this edition to preserve for you: one gathered reading object, or that revised three-book presentation and its additional artwork.
