For the map drawn away from an online workspace
Wonderdraft’s official site describes an offline map-making application with coastline, road, symbol and label tools. For an author who wants to draw a regional fantasy map without maintaining a hosted atlas account, that is a coherent purchase direction. A mouse is an allowed input; a pen tablet is an alternative, not an automatic extra requirement.
The Surface name does not settle compatibility
The same page specifically lists Surface Pro support with an ARM-64 exclusion. A buyer choosing a new drawing computer should therefore not treat every Surface bearing the familiar name as the documented combination. Establish the processor architecture before allowing a pen demonstration to decide the hardware purchase.
This is a reason to pause that particular software/device pairing, not a claim about measured performance through an emulator. A computer outside the stated support is a question to resolve with the publisher before building a map workflow around it.
Buy the map tool before expanding its library
The site lists optional official Pirates and Fantasy Buildings packs separately. Their role is to expand an existing symbol library. Begin with the type of region and the essential visual vocabulary: if the base tools cover the coastline, settlements and roads, additional packs should answer a missing motif rather than make the first purchase feel complete.
One author and several operators are different arrangements
The publisher’s EULA requires a licence for each person operating the software for commercial/business use. The homepage’s statement about no additional commercial licensing should not be interpreted as a team-sharing entitlement. Shortlist Wonderdraft when the actual computer, offline work and intended operator arrangement fit together; then decide whether any extra artwork has a job.
