Begin with what needs controlling

A person recording a model-building explanation may want a straightforward desktop microphone; someone also mixing live audio may want more controls in reach. Neither use case automatically requires a studio makeover. Write down the adjustment that currently interrupts the session: placement, gain, headphone level or a processed voice route. That gives the comparison a bounded purpose. A manufacturer’s demonstration can show a feature, but it cannot establish how either microphone sounds in your room.

Neo makes the mounting package visible

Wave Neo’s current page lists a desktop stand, a ten-centimetre riser, pop filter and USB cable. Its dimensions are stated both with and without the riser. Those details make it possible to plan where the capsule and screen would sit without guessing from a styled picture. The page also documents mounting thread options and a headphone connection. Treat those as placement and connection facts, not proof that the supplied height is ideal for every person or desk.

Keep MK.2 separate from earlier Wave:3

The current Wave:3 address presents Wave:3 MK.2. Its page identifies onboard Wave FX processing, Clipguard 2.0, Auto Gain and a multifunction dial, with headphone and monitoring controls. Those are the documented reasons to investigate this specific generation. A used listing labelled only Wave:3 needs its own generation check. Do not attach MK.2 processing to an older unit because a current web address or a similar product photograph now shows the newer microphone.

Software access is part of the choice

Both current pages discuss Wave Link, while the MK.2 page distinguishes onboard processing and app-based mixing functions. Decide whether the intended computer can use the relevant current software and whether the creator actually wants that configuration work. A named effect path can be useful; it is not an acoustic guarantee. If the task is simply recording a clear explanation, extra routing that no one intends to maintain may be an avoidable burden rather than an automatic improvement.

Make the shortlist answer one session

Investigate Neo when its documented physical package and connection route meet the spoken-work setup. Consider MK.2 when its specific processing and accessible controls solve a recurring need and the software route is acceptable. Before committing, mark the exact generation and desired control in the plan. Leave room for a representative voice recording in the actual environment. The useful distinction is the control arrangement you will operate, not an unverified claim that either microphone removes every room problem.
