More than a numbered stack
The IDW Collection Volume 1 is appealing when you want a sustained beginning rather than twelve isolated covers. The publisher places the opening ongoing issues alongside micro-series for Raphael, Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo and Splinter. A reader interested in individual members of the family therefore receives those named character pieces within the opening collection, rather than treating every extra as something to discover only after finishing a numbered run.
An origin within the IDW series
IDW describes this as its new origin and presents the collection in recommended reading order. That makes it a sensible object to investigate for someone beginning this continuity. It does not mean Volume 1 contains the whole history of the Turtles, every publisher’s version, or a complete long-running series. A familiar film or animation can supply enthusiasm without making its events interchangeable with this particular comic account.
Name the physical edition clearly
For a precise physical reference, the official distributor identifies hardcover ISBN 9781631401114: 424 pages, published in 2015. The current IDW shop page mixes a paperback announcement with a hardcover selector, so its surrounding wording is not enough to settle binding. Keep the ISBN when seeking this hardcover. The point is to preserve the edition you meant, not to turn a publication date into a claim that a particular seller can deliver it now.
Choose the route you actually want to read
Choose this collection if the interleaved beginning and character pieces are what you want to spend time with. If your interest is a different adaptation, one favourite artist’s run, or a single issue as an object, a large opening collection may be the wrong unit. Decide where you want to begin, then let this specific contents list earn the book’s place. A thicker spine is not the benefit; a coherent portion of reading is.
