Read the character without rebuilding the manuscript
A fantasy novel may place one character’s scenes far apart. Copying them into a second document creates another text that must be kept current. Literature & Latte documents a different route in Scrivener: label the relevant pieces, gather them through a search collection, then filter the compile by that label or collection. A saved search collection updates when new matching files enter the project.
This is a stronger reason to consider the application than having a large number of notes. The purchase answers a repeated task: producing the current thread for a continuity read without rearranging the manuscript into character order. It suits a writer already willing to maintain consistent labels. If labels are applied casually, the collection will reflect that inconsistency just as efficiently.
The reading copy has its own presentation
Compile can combine the selected draft content into an output such as PDF or Word and apply section layouts. That means a writer can keep a working editor view and prepare a different reading format. It also means the export should not be assumed to preserve every visual choice in the editor; the selected layout has its own effect.
For a short setting document that is rarely revised, an ordinary word processor and a deliberate excerpt may be enough. Scrivener becomes more compelling when the same selection must be recreated after new scenes and revisions, particularly across several character threads. Start with the thread that is genuinely difficult to follow. If it becomes easier to read and maintain through the documented collection/filter arrangement, the extra project structure has a specific job.
