What would you record first?

A spoken syllable or a short tap can be a useful way to imagine the PO-33. The attraction is bringing a sound into the instrument, then deciding what that recording should do. Its built-in microphone provides one input route; the guide says an inserted line-input cable makes it record from that input instead. That gives the object a different starting point from choosing a ready-made synthesizer sound.

A whole sound and its slices are different materials

The maker lists eight melodic sample slots and eight drum slots. In the melodic section, the keys play the whole selected sound across a scale. In the drum section, the keys address slices. The guide also allows the start and length of individual drum slices to be adjusted.

For a reader drawn to sampling, that distinction is the interesting purchase question: do you want to hear a short recording at different pitches, or pick separate moments out of it? You do not need a large sound library to have a reason for either activity.

Forty seconds asks you to choose

The forty-second recording memory is shared across the device, not supplied separately to each slot. The guide describes a remaining-time display and says full memory requires deleting or recording over an existing sound. This is a small collection you actively shape. It is not a way to keep a long rehearsal recording simply because the unit includes a microphone.

Keep capture at the centre of the choice

Choose the PO-33 when the thought of finding, recording and reshaping short sounds is what keeps returning. If that collecting and editing work feels like an obstacle, its defining feature may not be what you want. The compelling object here is a tiny place for a few sounds you have chosen yourself, with two distinctly different ways to make them playable.
