The story inside is not the reason to buy both
Hobonichi’s HON guide explains that the ONE PIECE content matches the ONE PIECE Original. That makes this a choice about the book you want to handle, rather than a hunt for a second different set of themed daily pages.
The named Japanese Original is an A6 daily planner with 464 pages. The alternative here is the 2027 A6 HON ONE PIECE Very Very Merry. Keep those exact year, format and theme identities together; a Weeks or an earlier-year edition is not the same comparison.
Original leaves the outer layer to you
Choose the Original route when the separately chosen cover is part of the enjoyment. Perhaps you already have a cover you want to keep using, or you want to choose the book and its outer layer independently. The planner itself does not need to supply the entire visual identity.
That flexibility only helps if the intended cover is appropriate for the exact book. A favourite cover in a different planner format should not be treated as a fit simply because it also carries the Hobonichi name.
HON makes the cover part of the object
HON is the stronger candidate when Very Very Merry is the complete exterior you want to use. Its integrated construction removes the need to make a separate cover choice. It also limits that route: Hobonichi says HON does not fit Techo Covers or Cover on Cover.
That exclusion can settle the decision before colour or character preference does. Someone buying HON in order to put it inside an existing Techo Cover is combining two incompatible plans. Someone who wants the named HON cover as the finished book may find exactly what they were looking for. The shared themed content lets the cover decision remain honest, without inventing extra reading material to justify it.
