A screen that belongs near the lens
For an introduction to a character project, the speaker may need a short script while facing the camera. Prompter combines beam-splitter glass with its own 9-inch display. It does not require a phone to become the display. That integrated position is the purchase reason; another ordinary monitor beside the desk does not put words in the same place.
It can display more than a scrolling script
Elgato describes apps and windows as well as text. A creator may prefer a few talking points or a call window to a full script. The computer display route uses DisplayLink, so it should be checked as a device/software combination rather than treated as a spare HDMI monitor.
This is not automatically the best choice for a demonstration consisting only of a screen capture and later narration. If the creator never needs to read near the camera, the physical prompting arrangement has little work to do.
Voice-following is a separate feature choice
Elgato lists additional requirements for Voice Sync: an appropriate microphone and, on the documented Windows route, an NVIDIA RTX 2060 or better, or an Apple M1 or better on the Mac route. Do not interpret possession of the basic display as proof that automatic speech-following is available on the same computer.
The camera remains part of the shortlist
The manufacturer says it has not verified every camera. Mounting, physical shape and wide field of view can affect the arrangement. Select Prompter when the actual camera and computer fit the intended script/display role. If the unresolved need is a camera-compatible mount or a different speaking method, settle that before adding an integrated screen.
