A picture may already be enough
For a tabletop session that only needs a printed floor plan or a background image, Dungeon Scrawl’s free core can save editable .ds files and export PNG or WebP. Do not choose a subscription merely because the map contains doors in the drawing. A drawn door and an interactive door are different deliverables.
What the new export changes
The official September 2026 announcement adds UVTT export for Pro subscribers. Its purpose is to carry map imagery with detected walls, doors and preconfigured light information into a supported virtual tabletop. The announcement describes a Roll20 import route and explicitly makes other-tabletop use conditional on UVTT import support.
That is a specific upgrade case for someone otherwise rebuilding those boundaries after each map update. It is less relevant for a group playing from an ordinary image, or for a receiving application that does not support the format. Keep the map-maker’s export feature and the receiving tabletop’s current capabilities as two separate requirements.
Choose the output that changes the session
Before subscribing for this feature, identify the actual tabletop and the result the group needs: a background, a print-ready sheet or structured wall/light data. A compatible existing sample is more useful here than choosing from the most elaborate map screenshot.
If structured boundaries are the missing work, UVTT gives Pro a clear purpose. If the group needs only the illustration, keep the simpler output route. The attractive part is avoiding a real rebuilding task—not adding a lighting system to a session that does not use one.
