A tribute to making a story together
USPS issued its Dungeons & Dragons stamps at Gen Con in Indianapolis on August 1, 2024, marking the game’s fiftieth anniversary. The issuer’s account describes a pastime built from books, dice and shared imagination. A postage stamp is an interesting home for that idea: a private table’s invented adventure becomes something recognisable in public circulation. For a fan, collecting the issue can be a way to mark participation in a tradition rather than choosing a single favourite hero.
The map belongs beside the monsters
Item 485400 contains twenty stamps across ten designs. Its surrounding artwork adds adventurers fighting a dragon, a golden twenty-sided die and a dungeon map. These are not merely extra decorations: together they connect the beings encountered in a story with the tools and spaces through which players encounter them. A collector drawn to the social history of fantasy may therefore enjoy the issue as a record of how the game was publicly represented in 2024. That historical reason does not need a claim about future rarity or a currently available postal offer.
