A familiar picture need not produce an obvious clue
Dixit Disney is attractive when the group wants to spend time with images inspired by Disney and Pixar films. But recognition is a starting material, not a film-knowledge competition. The storyteller wants some people to identify the chosen card without everyone doing so. Its rules even advise avoiding direct story references when players are unfamiliar with the characters or movie. A clue can instead respond to the scene, a feeling or a relationship visible in it.
Odyssey offers a different visual invitation: dreamlike, text-free illustrations by Marie Cardouat and Pierô. Choose those when the group would rather begin in an unfamiliar image than return to a shared film. Neither choice requires everyone to arrive with the same interpretation.
Seven people changes the box decision immediately
The Disney standalone game supports three to six people. Current Odyssey supports three to twelve. If seven friends are all expecting to take part in the same game, Odyssey's stated range answers a real requirement that a preference for Disney artwork cannot remove. For a smaller gathering, either range can fit, so the images and voting procedure deserve more attention.
The current Odyssey vote has another decision inside it
Disney's linked English rules give each player one voting dial. The current Odyssey refresh rules give each player two: vote for two different cards, or place both votes on one card. That adds a choice between spreading the guess and committing it. It is a tangible difference for a group considering the currently documented boxes, not merely a claim that one has room for more people.
The refresh matters here. Match this description to that edition rather than assuming every older Odyssey box contains the same dials. If what you want is the single-guess Disney procedure, choosing Odyssey solely for its pictures would miss the extra voting decision described in the current rules.
Build the gathering around the game you actually want
Choose Disney for a three-to-six-person gathering that wants those film-inspired images while leaving room for unexpected clues. Choose current Odyssey for a larger circle, its dreamlike image world, or the interest of the two-vote choice. Both products are standalone bases in the linked publisher records. An extra pack of pictures can be a later choice; it does not replace the player pieces and procedure needed for this evening.
