Choose a vertical collection or a wider scene
Two cabinets can both fit the room yet organise a collection very differently. Compare IKEA BLÅLIDEN 005.205.19 with the wider RUDSTA 504.501.37, keeping the article numbers beside their names. Begin with the arrangement you want: separate small scenes stacked vertically, or a wider relationship between objects. Neither cabinet shape determines your collecting taste. A sketch of the actual objects is more useful than deciding from the number of items a styled photograph appears to hold.
Keep the outside measurements in their proper role
The US pages list BLÅLIDEN at 13¾ inches wide and 59½ inches high, and this RUDSTA at 31½ inches wide and 47¼ inches high. These are overall furniture measurements. They establish a different room footprint, not guaranteed internal clearance for a figure. Frames, shelf positions and door openings still need their own measurements. Do not calculate a missing interior dimension by guessing a frame thickness from the gallery. Keep unavailable measurements marked as questions.
Decide whether the back panel belongs in the scene
RUDSTA's product description specifically mentions attaching photos or drawings to its metal back panel with magnets. That creates another presentation option, not a requirement to cover the background. A printed image behind a three-dimensional figure can explain a theme or compete with its outline. Compare a plain background with one proposed image before planning a collage. Do not assume that magnets, pictures or all lighting shown in a room photograph are supplied with the cabinet.
Check installation and the hand path separately
Both product information and the relevant instructions must be checked for the selected article. BLÅLIDEN's assembly document requires permanent wall attachment; RUDSTA's current page also warns that secure anchoring is required. Resolve the actual wall and fitting questions before decorating. Then sketch how your hands carry the largest complete base through the open door. A suitable room footprint is not proof that the object can be inserted, removed or maintained comfortably in a loaded arrangement.
Choose from the complete sketch
Keep two sketches with the same objects: one using the narrower vertical format and one using the wider format. Include the largest complete support, access space and the background you actually want. If a required internal measurement remains unknown, seek that answer before narrowing the choice. A collection that depends on a wide shared scene may favour a different investigation from one built around separate levels. Choose the shape that serves that intention, while leaving exact fit subject to verified measurements.
