AZ-01 makes movement the attraction
The original 2023 AZ-01 gives a Blade Liger fan a specific reason to choose Takara Tomy’s interpretation: powered walking and lighting. The maker also describes enjoying the movement on the supplied stand. That is an appealing way to revisit a completed model if what you love is watching the machine come to life.
It is a less convincing reason if you mainly want a particular equipment configuration for a carefully arranged static scene. A moving feature is valuable when you actually want to use it, not merely because it adds another line to a feature list.
The HMM’s name includes an important “AB”
Kotobukiya’s exact product is HMM RZ-028 Blade Liger AB, item ZD131R. Its description points toward the additional equipment and the relationship between the blades and boosters. The decision can therefore start with the version you want to build and look at, rather than an assumption that every blue Blade Liger is the same kit.
Both are identified as 1/72, but a shared scale does not make their engineering, parts or intended configurations interchangeable. The HMM’s documented appeal is its particular equipment presentation; there is no need to turn an unlisted feature into a claim about every HMM product.
Choose the moment you want to return to
Picture the moment after construction that would make you come back to the shelf. If it is switching on a walking display, AZ-01 addresses that desire directly. If it is revisiting the AB-equipped silhouette and choosing how its components are presented, ZD131R is the more relevant product to investigate.
Keep “original 2023 AZ-01” and “HMM ZD131R” attached to that decision. Later variants or similarly named releases should not inherit these exact descriptions simply because the character name matches. The better choice is the one whose particular Blade Liger you wanted in the first place.
