A companion beside the keyboard
Speed Editor supplies dedicated editing keys and a search dial without becoming a full typing keyboard. Blackmagic documents Bluetooth with an internal battery, USB operation and charging. For a laptop editor who wants physical trimming controls while retaining a familiar keyboard, that companion role is the clear reason to consider it.
It is less convincing if the real need is a normal keyboard with a few shortcuts. Adding a specialist surface makes sense when the Resolve editing controls themselves have a repeated job.
A replacement with its own desk commitment
Editor Keyboard combines a traditional QWERTY keyboard with dedicated editing controls and a search dial incorporating a clutch. Its current specifications list USB-C and two USB-A hub ports. This is the candidate for someone deliberately replacing the main typing keyboard with a Resolve-oriented arrangement.
That replacement also means accepting its full keyboard layout and physical presence. An artist who shares the desk between drawing, writing and occasional cutting may prefer keeping the ordinary keyboard and adding a compact controller only when needed.
The software key is a contents detail, not the whole choice
Blackmagic’s current specifications list a DaVinci Resolve Studio activation key with both models. Notice that before planning a separate new Studio purchase, while checking the actual offered package if considering another seller or a used device. Do not assume a previously redeemed key accompanies a second-hand unit.
Choose the hardware for its physical job: companion control or main keyboard replacement. The included licence can affect what is needed in a new package, but does not make two very different desk arrangements interchangeable.
