An older favourite is useful, but its label is not the whole answer
A recipient who already wears the Pelican Town Community Center Hoodie gives you a helpful starting point. Ask whether they like its present fit, then look at the current product before repeating the size. Fangamer says reprints since November 2023 use roomier, less fitted garments than early runs. An old photograph or remembered M therefore cannot tell you how the current version will sit.
The current garment rows also distinguish XS from S–4X, linking them to different base garments. This matters if the gift sits near that boundary. A chart attached to the S–4X blank is not evidence for XS merely because both sizes appear on the same decorated hoodie page.
A body circumference and a flat width are answering different questions
On the linked PC78ZH manufacturer information, SanMar separates a body size chart from product measurements. The body chest measurement goes around the fullest part of the chest. The garment measurement runs across the laid-flat hoodie below its armholes. Matching those two numbers directly would compare a person’s circumference with one width of fabric.
A natural gift conversation can be much smaller: ask the recipient to compare a comfortable hoodie they own with the corresponding product-measurement diagram. If they prefer to use body measurements, keep them with the body size chart. Let their preferred looseness and ordinary layers stay in the conversation rather than treating a size letter as a promised fit.
Keep the surprise in the presentation
The Community Center design can remain a welcome reference to a game they enjoy while the size is chosen together. This hoodie is a more purposeful gift when the recipient likes both the motif and wearing this kind of outer layer. Someone who only wants the artwork, or dislikes deciding clothing fit by mail, may prefer another form of merchandise. The useful extra detail is the current blank and measurement method, not a guess about what a fan ought to wear.
