Ring Fit on Switch 2: keep the original Joy-Con in the plan

Software compatibility is only half the purchase. Ring-Con and the leg strap still need the earlier controller shape and a way to recharge it.

A compatible game can still need older hardware

Ring Fit Adventure is supported on Switch 2, but Nintendo’s Q&A says Joy-Con 2 cannot attach to Ring-Con and do not fit the leg strap. The documented route uses original Nintendo Switch Joy-Con instead. For a household moving to the new console, the older pair can therefore remain useful even if it is no longer the everyday controller.

A complete gift is more than the familiar box

Nintendo lists the physical game card, Ring-Con and Leg Strap in the package. That list does not supply the original Joy-Con pair. Before choosing it as a gift for a Switch 2 owner, establish whether those controllers are already available and wanted. A gift that requires an additional controller generation is a different commitment from one that works with the pair already beside the new console.

Charging also belongs to that commitment. Nintendo names an original Switch console, a Joy-Con Charging Grip or the Joy-Con Charging Stand (two-way) as ways to recharge the original controllers. Do not silently substitute a similarly named Joy-Con 2 accessory. If the old console is being passed on, decide which documented charging route will remain.

When the arrangement makes sense

This is a sensible game to investigate when the owner wants the Ring-Con activity and is willing to keep an original-controller setup. Nintendo’s play-mode table supports TV and tabletop, not handheld play. Someone who wants to travel with only the new console and its attached controllers is asking for a different arrangement. Resolve that practical preference before treating the software compatibility label as the whole answer.
