Two small letters can carry a whole request
A wishlist that says only Magnezone leaves something important unsaid. The official Scarlet & Violet rulebook explicitly distinguishes Magnezone ex from Magnezone-EX. Treating the suffix as decorative shorthand can send the seller towards a different named card, even when the familiar creature in the artwork looks reassuring.
Ask for the full card name and the intended printing, with the offered card visible. For a physical product such as Miraidon ex League Battle Deck, retain the ex in the name too. A product title is a reference for the request; it cannot identify every single card in an unrelated seller’s pile.
The suffix does not replace the Stage label
Pokémon’s January 2023 announcement says Scarlet & Violet Pokémon ex can be Basic, Stage 1 or Stage 2. It contrasts them with the older Black & White and XY Pokémon-EX. The practical lesson is to read the actual card’s upper-left Stage and Evolves From information rather than assuming ex means that it can immediately enter play as a Basic Pokémon.
If the purchase is meant to complete an evolution line, write down the predecessor named on the card. The rulebook describes evolving through the matching name. Recognising the same species in another illustration is not the same check, and this article makes no claim about an unverified Magnezone printing’s particular Stage.
Make the wishlist usable at the table
For a display collection, you may simply prefer one named design. For playing, the full name and evolution requirement have another job: they help avoid buying a card that cannot serve the planned line. Add the exact expansion or collector number once it has been verified for the wanted copy, rather than inventing one from memory.
The cited rulebook is a Scarlet & Violet-era reference, not a current tournament list. No physical cards were tested, and current format eligibility still needs its own check. Keeping a few letters on the request is a modest task, but it gives both buyer and seller something much clearer to agree on.
