The celebration and the membership clock
A year of online play can be a thoughtful present for someone who actually wants the service. On Nintendo’s US membership page, the individual 12-month option is 365 days, and a purchase or code redemption activates membership immediately. Redeeming before an existing term ends extends that term. Agree on the handover date and check the recipient’s current account first; do not redeem the code yourself just to make the present feel ready.
Leave a small note about renewal
The membership page describes automatic renewal, but a gift label does not tell you the recipient’s existing settings. Nintendo’s Americas support guidance says to turn renewal off at least 48 hours before expiry if another term is unwanted; access continues until the current term ends. The useful note is simple: which account owns the membership, where its actual end date appears, and who will decide on renewal. Let the account holder check those details without sharing a password.
A family plan makes the ending a shared decision
If a family membership is involved, Nintendo says the other family-group members also lose service when that membership ends. Avoid promising an ongoing household service when the gift covers one term. Ask whether the intended recipient already belongs to a covered group before choosing a plan. This guide follows the US membership page and Americas support instructions; use the recipient’s official regional pages before buying elsewhere.
