mini Link 3 or Link WIDE for a personal photo gift?
SANJIESAN original concept scene, not a product photograph.

Two people in a picture, or a whole scene

A gift photo might be a close portrait for a small journal, or a group in a landscape that matters to everyone pictured. Choose that image first. Otherwise the printer’s name can decide the crop before the photograph has been considered. Both models are tools for turning an existing digital image into an instant print; neither gives permission to use another person’s picture or guarantees that a chosen composition will survive a different format.

Use image dimensions, not the outer border

Fujifilm lists mini Link 3’s image area as 62×46mm. The Link WIDE manual lists 62×99mm. These are the picture areas, not the complete white-bordered print or a frame’s required outer dimensions. Make paper rectangles at those sizes and consider the intended orientation. The difference is especially relevant when people near the edges or a wide setting carry the meaning of the gift.

Make one deliberate crop

Look at which part of the original photograph must remain visible, then preview the crop in the corresponding app. A narrow portrait might suit mini without needing a larger image; a wider group might justify investigating WIDE. Neither conclusion says that bigger is universally better. Preserve the original file so the crop can be reconsidered. A print can be intimate or expansive because of its composition, not simply its physical size.

Film is part of the practical gift

The two records specify their respective instax mini and instax WIDE films, sold separately. They are different formats; a shared brand does not make cartridges interchangeable. Decide whether the gift is finished prints or a printer the recipient will keep using. In the second case, name the correct film and consider how the recipient will replenish it. This is a concrete ongoing requirement, without inventing a cost per picture or a local supply promise.

The app and cable follow the actual model

Mini Link 3’s support says its app is not interchangeable with SQUARE Link or Link WIDE apps. Its specification lists a supplied USB-C cable, while the original Link WIDE manual documents Micro USB charging. Keep that original WIDE model separate from WIDE 2 or other newer names. Verify current phone compatibility on the actual app listing rather than copying an old operating-system minimum from a printed manual.

Let the photograph settle the format

Choose the supported printer whose image area serves the particular picture and the recipient’s intended display or journal. If the surprise is the photo itself, agree on appropriate reuse before printing and leave space for a handwritten message outside important image details. If the gift is the device, include the exact app and film names in the handover. That is more helpful than assuming every person who likes photographs wants the same format.
